I've been really following the FTX Saga via CryptosRUs and Altcoin Daily Youtube channels. It was truly exhausting and Sam Bankman-Fried's name has been all over the world. This affected the crypto industry, around a million users have been affected and some have mentioned that 'this is planned'. Is this planned for the cycle to follow the same thing that happened in 2013 and 2017? I don't know much about that, but I have lots of realizations after what had happened in that FTX collapse. Feel free to add with what I have, I'll be more than happy to learn new things!
Exchanges are not Crypto storage
May it be centralized or decentralized, FTX (Celcius, Voyager) are lessons that we can't and we should not make it as our crypto storage. Hardware wallets, browser wallets, cold storages, are some the options that is safer. Just make sure not to share your private keys and be vigilant in clicking links or sites that requires you to enter your keys.
DeFi is still Maturing
Decentralized Finance may provide a lot of impact in establishing an excellent crypto economy in the future, can't deny the fact that we are still on the early stage of this system. Staking is a common feature of DeFi. According to Sofi, Staking is the process of locking up crypto holdings in order to obtain rewards or earn interest.
But this comes with a heavy price. Say you purchased a certain crypto at $10 each, then you chose to stake it in the hopes of getting more of that coin (depending on the APR it offers), technically it is a profit. But what if that certain crypto that you staked loses greater than 75% its original value? Say the price gone down to $2.5 each, or worst losing more than 90% its original value.
Diversify your Portfolio
If you put your eggs into FTX, LUNA, or anything that collapsed, it is a crowning lesson that putting your eggs in one basket is extremely risky. Diversifying your portfolio lessens the risk of getting rug pulled. Of course, education and proper research will always be the keys to understanding the risk of a certain cryptocurrency.
Be Careful of FOMO
Because I have an experience in 2017. I realized that heaven in crypto currency has its time. So, during that crazy Crypto Bull Run in 2021, I know exactly what to do. Make cash as much as possible, I didn't cash out all of my earnings and gains, but I took the advantage of using stable coins (and putting some money into my bank accounts). So I realized, Cash is very important to be taken into account.
Also, because again I had that experience the last time, I realized not to be hyped too much by my emotions. I may have invested on some, but I made sure that what I invested will not hurt me much if a downfall arises.
Cash is Important
You may be winning a lot in your investments, always make sure you have enough cash to live because investing in crypto means you can afford them to lose. It is totally different from stocks and bonds in terms of volatility. In a minute, that $$$ of yours could lose more than 50%. So, make sure you spare cash that you are comfortable to have without the worry of seeing your crypto dump.
So, during these bearish times, I was able to invest some (especially Hive) at a minimal cost. Like I said, my goal is to accumulate Hive as much as possible and wait for the next Bull cycle until my 1 full upvote can give me a meal already. That's sounds exciting to me.
What have you learned about the FTX collapse or the crypto cycle in full? I would love to see your comments!
