When it comes to a failure of a certain currency, one common thing that has been done through the years that deflate its value is overprinting. This happens when the government prints extra/more money to be used on the things that they want to do and if the supply of money increases while the amount of goods stays the same, this extra money printed will just clog up the market. In return, the prices of the goods will increases.
Overprinting is one of the main causes of inflation and this has been the issue of the US government. Massive printing that as a result, clogs up the market, devaluing the dollar. This is also the reason why countries are gradually losing trust in the US dollar because of its recent controversies. The most recent one is how banks have caused serious issues in the world market.
Will History Repeats Itself?
The average length of years for a certain currency to be replaced as the world's currency spans at about 70-110 years. It is on the right track for history to repeat as the US dollar has been the world's currency for about 110 years now. Will this be finally the time to replace the USD? Well, economically speaking the America is no longer top in terms of economy. China is now leading the race.
This is also the reason why China's Yuan is deemed to replace the US Dollar. This country also has connections with Russia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and other countries that are not on good terms with the United States due to political reasons which is why for me, Yuan's position is strategically very strong.
