So after about 30 km traveling on a not so bad dirt road we finaly arrived in the small Karoo town called Nieu Bethesda.
We ran a bit low on feul thinking that we will get diesel in the small karoo town but.......once there we discovered that not only did the town not have any ATM’s or card machines but no diesel aswell.
But let me rather tell you what it did have. Driving into the town we were greeted with plenty of friendly local kids waving at us. It was like we drove back in time and found ourselfs back in the year 1878 when the town was founded by Charles Murray a preacher from the NG church.
The dirt roads in town takes you pass stunning little B&B’s, art galleries and small but character filled little restaurants where you can have some of the best traditional food with a good class of South African wine overlooking the windmill, old church and the great karoo mountains.
This town is definitely worth the 30 km dirt road drive and a must see for anyone that loves the classical old town vibe!
Loved it!
The beautiful windmill with the old NG church in the background.
The old church.
The main street of Nieu Bethesda.
The corner restaurant called ‘Die Waenhuis’ where I had the best lamb and veggies ever.
Character inside ‘Die Waenhuis Restaurant’
The vibe inside....just awesome!
Well all I can say is....that if you ever find yourself in the Great Karoo of South Africa you should not miss out on the Nieu Bethesda experience....or should I rather say Old Bethesda.
Thank you for reading.
I’ll be back tomorrow with day 3 of our journey to the coast.
Cheers.
