상해는 꽤 신기한 도시이며 서울과도 꽤나 닮아 있다.
Shanghai is wonderful city, and personally it seems to be quite similar with Seoul, Korea.
지하철이 상당히 잘 되어있는 상해 Subway Heaven
15개 이상의 지하철 호선이 있어 다니기 편하며(물론 출퇴근시는 지옥철), 중앙엔 강이 흐른다. 주요 지역인 인사동같은 톈즈팡, 한강같은 황푸강, 63빌딩같은 동방명주, 시청같은 인민광장, 명동같은 난징동루, 이태원같은 용캉루 등이 닮아있다.
There are more than 15 lines of subways for convenient transportation system(of course hell for commute), and there are giant river dividing the city. Main areas are Tian Zi Fang (like In Sa dong of Seoul), Huang Fu River (like Han River of Seoul), Dong Fang Ming Zhu (like 63 building of Seoul), Ren Min Square (like City Hall Square of Seoul), Nan Jing Dong Lu (like Myoung Dong of Seoul), and Yong Kang Lu (like Itaewon of Seoul)
항구 도시 상해의 모습을 간직한 와이탄 Shang hai means 'near the Sea'
상해의 특이점은 제국주의 시대에 반강제로 개항된 도시라 상해 특색의 문화유산이나 음식이 굉--장-히 드물다는 것이다. 상해 가이드북을 보면 90% 이상이 외래 음식, 외국이 지은 건축물, 현대에 들어서야 생긴 것들이다. 일본, 프랑스, 영국 등의 조계지가 있어 (중국인이 가득한) 유럽 느낌이 나기도 한다.
Shanghai-born cultural heritage and food are quite rare as the city has comparatively short history as it is forced to be open in Imperialism era. If you see guide book of Shanghai, 90% of it is comprised of foreign food, architects, and modern stuff. There are Zhu jie di(historically allowed area for foreign trades and etc) of Japan, France, and England, so the atmosphere there are really exotic.

그래서 차이나타운을 떠올릴때의 옛 골목 같은 전통 중국의 모습은 찾기 어렵다. 문화적 자부심의 결여를 소비로 많이 푸는 것 같다. 외국 브랜드들과 백화점, 대형마트가 수도 없이 많으며, 맛집과 체인점도 굉장히 많다. 외국인이 많아서인지 비교적 카페와 클럽 문화도 잘 발달되어 있다. 돈 많으면 정말 살기 좋은 도시일듯하다.
So you can hardly meet Beijing-like traditional China in Shanghai. It seemed like there are more capitalism cuture than traditional culture in Shanghai. There are foreign brands and department store everywhere and lots of gourmets and chain store from world. And comparatively cafe culture and clubbing culture is also well developed in here.

아이러니하게도 침략과 수탈의 대상이었던 도시들은 거의 잘 살더라. 항구에서 무역과 금융이 성장하면서 상해는 중국 제1의 경제도시로 성장하고, 지금까지도 중국 도시 중 평균 월 소득 1위를 차지하고 있다. 화이트컬러가 많아 창업도 라이프스타일 관련 창업이 많이 나온다고 한다.
Ironically, once invaded and deprived cities usually have higher level of living than others. Shanghai with its opened harbor, it grew as number one economic center of China, with growth of trading and finance. So it still remains its position of high level of economic growth and volume. There are lots of lifestyle startups as there are lots of white collar people in here.

따라서 물가와 집값이 겁나 비싸다. 시내에 나가서 적당히 한끼 먹으면 싸게 먹어도 한 명당 50元(한화 1만-1만5천원) 이상은 나오는 것 같다. 거의 서울이랑 비슷하거나 상회한다. 나는 쇼핑 같은건 잘 안하고 싼거만 찾아서 모르겠는데 상해가 세계물가순위 1위에도 자주 꼽힌다고 한다.
So prices and rents are high. If you eat ouside in Shanghai city center, it is around 10-15 dollar per person at least, which is equal or more than that of Seoul. I personally didn't shop much, and always tried find cheaper stuff, but I've heard that Shanghai is often selected as the city with highest living costs.
집값은 전세 개념이 없어 월세로 살아야 하는데 살만한 좁은 원룸이 한국돈 80만원은 기본으로 넘는다. 이 역시 나는 도심에서 1시간 반 떨어진 시골에 살기 때문에 나에게는 해당 사항 없다.
Rents should be paid monthly, and small one room is expensive enough.

빈부격차가 크다. 우리나라는 빈부격차가 심하다지만 피부로 잘 느껴지진 않는데, 여기서는 하루 한화 2000원으로 살 것 같은 사람과 하루에 한화 200만원씩 쓸 것 같은 사람이 나란히 길을 걷는다. 서민 음료인 豆浆은 1元(한화 180원)에 파는데, 옆 카페에서는 커피 한잔에 50元(한화 9000원)이다.
There is a big gap between the rich and the poor. You can easily watch and feel when you walk through Shanghai. The rich who spend thousands dollar daily walk along with the poor who make a living with 2 dollar. Premium coffee in Cafe is 10 dollar and just across the street, Dou Jiang(Soy Milk) is 10 cents.
도시답게 언어는 보통화가 다 통한다. 살아보니 상해 자체의 외부 유입인구가 많아 상하이인을 만나기 자체도 꽤 힘든 것 같다. 여러 얘기를 종합해보면 상해 사람은 좀 더 기가 세고, 상해에 사는 자부심이 강하며, 깍쟁이 같은 구석이 있다.
You can use Mandarine in Shanghai. It was quite hard for me to meet a person who was born in Shanghai, as Shanghai is full of people from outside. Shanghai people are known to be strong in opinion, and proud of their city.

상해는 비가 많이와 공기는 그리 나쁘지 않은 것 같다. 개인적인 생각으로는 지금 북경의 공기 오염이 매우 심각한 상황에 이르렀기에, 슬슬 북경의 명망높은 학자, 재력가, 기업가와 가족들이 상해로 이동을 시작할 것 같다.
Shanghai rains a lot, which makes air clean. I think as Beijing's air condition is killing people, famous and rich and smart people would move into Shanghai Soon.
