Another episode of this series of pictures about strange statues and art in Prague:
The structure you see here is called Trifot and if was made by Czech artist David Cerny, one of the most provocative artists of this time. His surreal ideas and works of art are well recognized all around Czech Republic, some of them displayed on prominent landmarks of the capital city (check for example his baby sculptures, crawling on the Prague TV tower located in the Zizkov neighborhood).
Trifot looks like something straight out of an Orwell dystopic novel: the main structure is shaped like an old camera, whilst its many eyes have cameras with motion sensors in them. The eyes move and randomly follow people, projecting the images on one of the screens located around the installation... Creepy, isn't it?
Cerny's work is obviously a harsh critique against the triumph of the big brother culture we all share in the modern times, in which - thanks to internet and mobile phones - everything is recorded on video, privacy does not exist anymore and where each of our step is constantly monitored. If you think about the recent Cambridge Analytics scandal, this installation looks quite profetic and could maybe provide some insight on one of the possible futures we could live in, I must say...
Trifot can be found just next to the metro station Nové Butovice, in Prague 5.
