Sometime in the maybe near future, will people retire to low-G orbital stations?
A big spinning space station high above Earth. Windows full of the planet turning below. You walk the corridors and your knees do not start arguing with you like down below.
That is the idea. Dial gravity back to roughly half or two-thirds of what we feel down here and the load on worn joints and spines drops. For someone living with arthritis it could mean living with less pain.
It is not weightlessness. We already know microgravity is hard on the body. Bones thin, muscles waste, and even cartilage can suffer if there is no loading at all.
So the station has to spin. Large enough radius that the rotation stays slow and comfortable. Different rings or decks could offer a choice of gravity levels so you pick what your body likes that decade.
There would still be gyms and daily work. Partial gravity plus some loading is probably the mix that actually works long term.
Would you go if the price and the medicine lined up? Or does Earth still feel like the only proper place to be?
