The Gentle Insect: Weta

Yes this is a very much alive Weta I brought inside and placed on a paper towel to quickly take a photo before returning it back to it's home, a decomposing fallen tree trunk at the back of our section. Unfortunately it's only a small one, shame I didn't spot an adult, now that has impressive jaws on it. It surprises people that these are so common, well, more like scares the shyte out of them. Houses in normal suburbs generally don't back into the bush.

These are harmless, rarely seen outside it's home and are such a wonderful insects. So if you see one it's probably wandered off so pick it up (with your hand), look around for a fallen tree or stump, and drop it there.
