I love driving in the clouds. Fog forces you to slow down and take in life 100' at the time. It makes you present to the beautiful things around you that speed made you oblivious to. You can’t see far enough to be afraid of what the next turn holds.
All you have is the road right in front of you. It’s strange the peace that comes over me during those drives. That at least for a moment all worries about the past and the future disappear in the mist, and I become present for once. I become aware of how little I live my life in the present moment. I’m always wondering what could have been or anxious about what will be.
Fog has a lovely way of slowing things down and bringing you into the now, into what is. It forces you to focus on the current moment. As someone who lives their life so fast and in their head too much, the serenity of a foggy drive in the mountains is just what I needed.
