Two days ago, I visited Millenium Elephant Foundation in Sri Lanka. It's a place where you can see (now 10) elephants which were taken from people who either abused them or didn't have money to keep or cure them. It's terrible!
But now, these animals have a much much much better life. They aren't chained or used e.g. in logging industry. They have vets to help them and their keepers who seem to really take care of and love these amazing animals.
Well, I'm not a fan of seeing animals in captivity but this situation is different. All these 10 elephants are domestic, not wild ones. It means they can never live in the wild and wild herds will not accept them. I believe this foundation is not only about making money on tourists. They made a great impression on me and I think they have a mission to help all elephants which experienced some trauma during their lives. Being close to these majestic animals is a totally unforgettable experience. Oh yes, and I would never like to ride an elephant as this is really unpleasant (if only) for them. Never do this! You can take an elephant for a walk and walk next to the animal. It's a million times better :)
