The sun was setting and the clouds gathered. The ground in pains, yearning for romance with rain. Mothers calling their children who were busy romancing the dust. ''A storm is coming, get your butts in the house'', they yelled.

There I stood watching in amazement how wonderful childhood really is, and how I was deprived of the childhood I yearned for. The strict but fun adolescent phase of my life. The love I wasn't allowed to try out. With all these thoughts, gone was my mind from my body, there stood an empty creature with a wandered mind reminiscing on the past. The good and hardworking daughter praised by everyone, with a feeling of lost and loneliness noticed by none.

Appalled by mom's pat on the shoulder I was brought back to reality in an instant. It was the fifth pat according to her, after calling for more than eight times. '' What has taken over your mind my princess ''? She asked as she tried to force a smile, with an expression of both shock and worry boldly written over her tired face. Anyway, I've closed all the windows and doors, I wanted to tell you to close the window on which you lean, and forget about going to the river because from all indications, the storm is coming and you won't be safe outside.

I smiled at her, trying to suppress my feelings, I said, '' mom, this one ain't the first time the cloud is gathering, neither is it the first time we're experiencing strong wind in our village, for sure, the gods are mad at us and will not let down rain. She shrugged. ''Stay indoors, don't go out mma''. I said, as I left for the river with my calabash on my head.

Halfway in the journey, alas, the storm came. Stranded I was in the middle of nowhere. ''What becomes of me now''? I mused. Out of nowhere came my Knight and shinning armor, to provide succour which I craved for like breath. Uncontrollably my eyes found themselves running through his body from head to toe. My breath seized, I melted. My heart beat dropped.

There I was, basking in the euphoria of finding a prince charming. Before I could spell pen, he'd carried me in his huge arms straight to my doorstep. I muttered a ''Thank you'' to my Saviour stuttering to say my name. Off he went with a smile on his face and a feeling of pride. Promising to check back on me the next day or the day after as he took off. There I was, overwhelmed to even narrate my experience to mom. All she noticed was the glowing smile on my face.

In great anticipation, I waited for him the next day as promised, but to no avail. Days passed, weeks and months did too, but he left for good with a failed promise. Everyone is now asking questions as to why I'm like a walking corpes. Still the hope of him coming back lingered, disappointed and hurt, I decided to move on with life. But now, ''I Wish I Never Met Him''. Maybe I wouldn't have turned to a shadow of my former self.
