In my life I have never thought of being stranded in an unknown land without money until during my Nysc year. Unfortunately for me, I had no idea on how to easily get accommodation with the different bodies that welcome new corp members. This is why whenever I see anyone going for that service, I always tell them to locate one and get settled first and the person can get on to look for a good alternative as they live on.
That particular night, I was with my phone but I could barely do anything with it because I had made calls to all the people I know around and no one was able to accommodate me for the night.
Do you know how I was able to start a life with my total struggle on my first night there? Omo! It was tough but I scaled through.
No lies, picking up a life in a totally strange land does not come easy at all even when someone has the money to tidy up things which seems like the major factor. It gets worse in situations where one has no funds or help at all. I won't lie, I know this challenge and it has happened to me twice but one thing I just know is that the earth is everyone's home and sooner or later, I'll find a way to settle down.
The first on my list of the things I would do to settle down is to look for a shelter over my head. I know this won't come in handy because getting an apartment in a country like mine means one must have enough money. If it's night already, I would look for a church to spend the night there while I continue the following money to look for a cheap apartment I can bargain while I go out to hustle for money. Of course there are works that really pay well but they demand excessive physical strength and thankfully, I have an idea on building site works which is one of the jobs one can easily get without having connection with anybody. I mean, the mere service(help) to a manson and not the manson itself. I would go to any available building site, seek to do any work available to earn money for food first and from there I can get connected with the guys around to call me for work in subsequent times. This isn't going to break me down because I was once used to it and also, I was brought up with hard work.
The focus isn't about making a quick and huge amount of money, no, it's not going to be like that, I would continue going to work, find a means to get a phone and from there and I can start getting supports from sorting money online too since I know my way around.
I would keep sleeping in the church at night until I get my cheap accommodation and start life properly.
