While i was on beta.steemit.com and made there some communities i never tried how this works nor used them. Lately i started checking the system. Seems actually even many witnesses didnt know how all this exactly work or what does it give so after loads of digging and some mistakes i have learned few things which may spare you some time.
Communities not about money
For start - communities do not share money between users, admins or moderators. Owning a community is just "a cool thing" but this has nothing to do with money. Loads of people think that by writing in someones community they lose some rewards - nope.
This is why if you for example post about ptogoraphy all you need is photography tag you dont need to seek for such comminity. Of course you can as you may get more eyes (ie if you post to few communities on same topic) but neccessity is not that big.
Of course i can see that we go for dog-photo community where users only share pics of dogs. Actually i think best usage of community is to chose niche within niche to get very speicifc. For now they are used mostly different way (at least the popular ones) but who cares.
Also some communities have own tokens and if you post ot them you get the token but thats not built-in and its an exception.
SteemPeak Share Function
SteemPeak has amazing frontend and functions, no questions asked. Lately after communities came live they come with a way that you can resteem to a community you are a member of not to your own blog. For example you see some article fit into some community (doesnt have to be yours) then you resteem it to right place not your own wall. I thought this function will be everywhere just Steemit.com doesnt have it. I was very wrong.
Thing is - this is not a resteem. Its a normal post which shares inside someone else post with some extra payment share on top (not sure how thats made since communities dont take payments). So when you "resteem" by using "share" you actually do a post. It uses your normal RC, your VP and such.
This way this tool needs to be used with real care coz if you, for example, do 10 shares you actually do 10 posts. I do suggest using Steempeak by 
Ideal would be if this was treated as ie comment when used inside communities not as posts to not cause problems of overposting but not sure if thats possible.
