"But I thought we had a thing going on between us,'' Chloe said with tears in her eyes. "I mean you told me clearly that you loved, the signs were there. You showered me with gifts, you cared for me, but now you don't act like you do again. You can't even look me in the eye while I talk to you" she continued.
"That's because I've found someone else. Someone that captured my heart and made me realize that I've been fooling myself around you all this while. Chloe can't you get it ? What I had for you then is over. I'm with Juliet now" I said.

Chloe was absolutely right. When I had started schooling in the Sunshine state, she was my first friend that eventually graduated to a crush. We spent all the free time we had together. We knew each other's secrets. I could swear at that point that she also had a thing for me because she didn't care if she undressed before me or slept on the same bed with me. It got to the point where we almost bathed together. We were best friends. Anybody who knew us then thought we were dating, it actually felt like we were dating.
I had made known my intentions to her one day and instead of a positive reply, Chloe laughed at me.
"Why are you laughing, am I funny to you" I had asked.
"Sorry but, watching you open your mouth to say such. You actually sounded funny" she replied.
"I sound funny because I told you I love you?." I asked. "Chloe, you wouldn't deny that we have something going on here"
"I didn't deny it James. Look, you're a nice guy that any girl would love to date and that includes me . But James at this point in your life you are like a brother to me, you can't take care of all this" she said referring to her body while turning round as if she was modelling " so you just have to focus in your studies make money then when you talk about love I might listen"
I felt dejected when I heard her say all that. And regretted ever telling her how I felt. Few days later Chloe started keeping late nights, she didn't care for studies anymore. She was regularly picked up by the big boys on campus and dropped off late at night drunk. I kept cleaning up her mess and vomits, carefully explaining to her why the lifestyle she chose was not the best for her. But instead she told me I was jealous of her not being my girl.
It got to a point I packed up my bag and left the apartment I shared with her to another apartment where I had secretly rented. I couldn't stand seeing the girl i love living a careless life and not listening to my advice. I focused more on my studies and frequented the library till my final year. That was where I met Juliet. She was the shy and timid type. A beautiful girl although not as beautiful as Chloe. We had got talking in the library over current events at school and about ourselves. And along the line we fell deeply in love with each other. And since we were in our finals we decided to finish with exams before anything else happens between us.

It was on our graduation day that Chloe got to know about me and Juliet. I could see the regret on her face as I introduced her to Juliet. She wished us well and stomped off. Few days later I got a text from her ;
"You said you loved me but couldn't wait for me." The text read.
I didn't reply until today she showed up at my door. Clearly she has been left by the big boys on campus for a new catch. Apparently she was just a fling for them.

Few years later.
I was getting married to Juliet tomorrow. Everything was in place. I was at the bachelors party with my guys. The fun was top notch as I avoided not to misbehave and also was careful of my alcohol intake. When my phone beeped from a private number. I excuse the guys and read the text. And it read
"I've tried to let it go but clearly my soul is stuck with you. It's either you're getting married to me tomorrow or there won't be a bride. - From Chloe".
Just then one of my friends ran up to me and said.
"Hey bro we've got a problem."
"What problem?" I asked
"It's Juliet. I just got a call that she's missing"
I fainted.
