I would give myself a “B” if I were to grade my ability to keep secrets. I don't snitch, but if there's anything I know is that most secrets that we keep are often bad which will make us look shameful in the eyes of anyone who sees them. So if you tell me a secret that I know is of the nature I stated above, I would walk you through a process of realizing that there's no shame in exposing your secret, build you up to be more confident and brave enough to do the right thing. So since doing the right thing is my thing, I would first like to assume that anyone who tells me a secret already knows that I will do the right thing with whatever I'm told.

BUT WHAT IF THIS SECRET PUTS A LIFE IN DANGER

Here it doesn't matter whether it is a relative of mine or a person I don't know, one thing is sure, now that life is involved, there will no longer be a secret. Although if it involves a relative or a friend, I would have to treat it more seriously but apart from that, I will do what is right in both situations. I really understand what it means to keep secrets, my mum doesn't know some of the terrible mistakes I have made in the past, and I feel I owe her the right to know, I haven't seen her in a very long time, but once I see her, I would tell her. Not that it is her right, but because of the respect I have for her, I don't even see those mistakes as secrets anymore after sharing them as part of my story (Even here in hive).

Although my secrets don't put anyone in danger, it's a secret to my mum who I'm certain would be shocked to hear them. I told my younger sister some of them already since she started living with me, she couldn't imagine that I had been through such, but looking at what I've become I saw that those mistakes never defined me. Now it's obvious I would treat any other secret the same way I treat mine just to do the right thing. These are things that are often not easy to do, I mean for one to keep something a secret, then that thing can change the person's life either negatively or positively.

MY NEXT POINT OF ACTION

I don't judge, and I will certainly start building up courage in the person that has the secret to make it open, however, once I find out a life is involved, unavailing the secret is inevitable. If I see that the owner of the secret would also be in big trouble if the secret is revealed, my next line of action will be to only reveal the delicate (much-needed) part of that secret to save a life. This would be done with utmost anonymity so that I won't be dragged into the issue, and life will be saved, and the holder will be protected. I will have to create circumstances that will clearly pass the message without any of the major parties involved (myself included) to remain anonymous.

Now since there's no specific scenario involved in this matter, let's say it's a murder case, and the murderer confines in me, and because it's a secret, someone would be prosecuted for it. Knowing that I will try to build the murderer’s courage to turn himself in and make a confession and probably get a lighter sentence (which would not be easy by the way). At the same time, I will try to vindicate the accused anonymously. If there's evidence, I could anonymously leak evidence that would not link the murderer to the crime and clearly show that the accused is not guilty, leaving the authorities to find out who the murderer is themselves as I continue persuading the murderer to confess. The murderer would be aware that I'm doing something to vindicate the accused, and at the same time not point fingers at him with this I would have successfully solved a puzzle.

THIS IS MY RESPONSE TO HIVE GHANA PROMPT FOR THE WEEK.
