Hi, I'm new to the Hive Community and wanted to write up a quick introduction post to talk a bit about myself. The three biggest interests of mine as a kid which are still loves of mine now are Music, Gaming and Star wars.
I joined collage back in 2015 and studied TV and Film Production since, I was trying to learn writing skills because while studying a computer course I thought of an idea for a story, but, didn't really have any skills when it came to character development, dialog or plot lines. But, after seeing the TV and Film course and seen the scriptwriting module of it I figured scriptwriting and novel writing would be more or less the same thing. From the moment I started learning about all the aspects of film I fell in love with it.
While studying I started making some music videos for my band which helped me acquire extra skills using a camera outside of collage and after graduating I started working with some local bands on music videos.
Some of the videos I made for my band got some recognition which managed to get us better gigs to play and also gave me more material to show other bands at gigs to get work off them, which helped build up a client base.
in October 2019 we played our first gig outside of Ireland, we went over to London to play in The Underworld in Camden and a month after that we supported Electric Six in Belfast and again the next night in Dublin, playing for the largest crowd we ever had and that was our final gig we played before the lockdown. Me and lads had nothing to do band wise and couldn't even get together to jam in the house because of a noise complaint we had just before the lockdown, so we all agreed that it was probably best if we just call it quits. During the whole 2 years I barely picked up the bass and had no music videos or anything to film which drove me a little bit stir crazy. I kept my mind pre-occupied though by writing which was pretty much the only creative output I had to keep myself entertained.
[Final gig before the lockdown]
I wrote a lot of short films and wanted to test myself so aimed to write a feature film script which I completed and was pretty happy with. As the restrictions started to lift I began work as an extra on the show Vikings: Valhalla which was brilliant... I guess it was a good thing all the barbers were closed. During the summer I got a call as well to work on a music video for a new client which I was delighted about, and was really happy with how it turned out.
I met a bunch of like minded people out in Vikings and we all decided to work on a short film when we wrapped, we had been brainstorming ideas and with that I got to work writing the script. Everything was organized for it and the actors cast so I got in touch with some friends from collage who gladly got involved and currently I'm editing the film and working with a small team on sound design and a score, it's shaping up to be a pretty good action\ comedy short film.
Something else that was great was we got contacted about playing a small gig, two years to the day since our last time playing. We spoke about it and decided to do it for the fun, we winged it and it went pretty well. We could only remember 9 songs off by heart and we managed to play them without too many mistakes.
I think this story\ intro went on a bit long but it's been fun writing it. If you read it and enjoy it give me a follow, I'll write another blog, but do it on less of a broad topic, Cheers.
