Suite-Pee - System Of A Down
This is the first song on their self-titled, and their first studio album which was released in 1998, and from the moment this one comes on, right the way through to the end of the album it is an absolute blast, and launched them into the world of music.
A friend of mine back in school lent me their 4th and 5th album, which was kind of a double album launch, Mezmerize, and Hypnotize, I like them, and they have some good songs, but their First Album, and Second Album - Toxicity are amazing and are packed full of great songs from the start to the end.
Nobody Knows You When You're Down and Out - Scrapper Blackwell
Here is one that mixes the post up a bit, I love some blues, and this one really hits the spot when I'm feeling in one of those moods.
Not necessarily depressed, or particularly upset, but just a kind of down buzz. The funny thing is, when listening to sad music, it almost alleviates those feelings which is pretty cool.
I find this one great, even though it has an almost rough recorded and loose feel to it, and it has a certain amount of grain in the mix too which suits it.
Handsome Cabin Boy - Sweeneys Men
This is amazing I find; not just this song, but the Sweeneys Men in general, and for anyone who hasn't listened to them before - which I assume is a lot of people - they're well worth checking out.
My dad introduced these guys to me years ago, and ever since hearing the first couple of tunes back them, I got hooked and throw them on every so often.
Here Is Their Discography In One Album, it isn't what I listened to the first time, but I can't find a copy of that album on YouTube so that one I linked will have to do.
They go from Irish Trad to a kind of Southern American style at the drop of a hat in the album I originally heard, which was one thing I love about their music. Each of their songs tells a story too, and it's usually kind of dark, but in a good way.
House Carpenter - Sweeneys Men
Here's another song of theirs, and is an example of that deep south kind of tone they do, can't beat some Banjo in a song.
It's about a woman who runs away with a captain, leaving her house carpenter husband and son back home, and after a while out at sea, she is depressed that she left them, but stays, and then a week later the ship springs a leak and sinks.
The lyrics in this have a great turnaround for that part.
"They were not out, for about 2 weeks, I'm sure it was not 3.
Then this young lady began to a weepin' and she wept so bitterly."
Then in the turnaround to this verse
"They were not out for about 3 weeks, I'm sure it was not 4.
Well the ship sprung a leak and began to a sinkin', well it sank to rise no more."
I had to go by ear, as this version is a bit different than the other versions of the song out there.
