This is my submission to the SteemitPhotoChallenge, DESOLATION theme. Photos taken in Baja California Sur, Mexico while off-roading on ATVs with a stock Cannon Digital Rebel and a tripod.
Many miles from any sort of civilization, only reachable by ATV and long lost in the Mexican desert was a Christian shrine that someone once took very seriously.
As ATV Trails were cut through the Southern Baja desert sand, someone had accidentally disturbed a set of shallow graves. Speculation on who these people were lead to those who attended the Forsaken Shrine above. There were no grave yards or civilization anywhere for hours in every direction and anyone who gets hurt badly out this far, dies here. The best idea anyone had, was to try to place the bones in a safe location where they would not get run over by ATV traffic again. Their final resting place can now only be reached by foot through climbing several hundred large rocks. I am positive it is going to be a very long time before anyone finds these remains again.
The gateway to this section of desert is a tiny, unmapped village named San Felipe. Most of the 80 residents lived distributed across several small farms in the area and only 1 resident actually lived inside the village itself, near the church. This was his home and he invited us in to see. No power, no running water, no doors, no locks, no glass in the windows, it uses branches and trees for a roof. We never met or even saw another resident of the village.
