Bro this Arsenal league game in eFootball was the definition of stress. I was sitting 3rd in a top 5 league team and this was the last match of the season basically. The table was so tight that everything came down to goal difference. If I lost, I was dropping to 2nd only if it was above 1-0 against me, but if I lost 1-0 I’d actually fall further. If I drew, I stayed 2nd and that was safe. But if I won 1-0, I had to step down to 3rd anyway because Liverpool had the goal difference advantage over me. The only way I stayed up was if I won by more than 1 goal. So yeah, the math was in my head the entire 90 minutes and it was doing my head in. I even had the table open on my phone on the side just to double check every few minutes because I couldn’t believe how close it was.
Going into the match I picked Arsenal because I wanted to control possession and play nice football, but the AI was not having it. I was playing against Manchester B and they scored early, like 42nd minute through Pavel Nedved. The scoreboard said ARS 0-1 MNB and I just sat there like “are you serious right now”. I had 54% possession at half time, 1 shot, 0 on target, and they had 1 shot 1 on target. Stats meant nothing because I was losing. I kept trying to break them down with Berbatov, Rooney, Nedved, but their defense was sitting so deep. Every time I got near the box someone would slide in and clear it. I could feel 2nd place slipping away with every minute. I even tried switching to quick counters but they just sat back and absorbed everything like it was a cup final.
Second half I went all out attack. I switched formation, brought on fresh legs, and just started spamming through balls. The problem was I needed 2 goals to beat Liverpool on GD, but also couldn’t concede again or it was over. At 46 minutes it was still 0-1 and I was panicking. I had Lewis-Skelly, Rice, Calafiori all pushing up. The game kept giving me “Match-up More and More” and I was just trying to find a gap. Around 85th minute I finally got one. A ball came into the box, it was scrappy, and somehow it went in. 1-0. The stadium went crazy but I didn’t even celebrate properly because I knew 1-0 wasn’t enough. I needed another one in like 5 minutes plus stoppage time or Liverpool would still finish above me on goal difference. I was literally mashing the dash button trying to force something but their keeper turned into Neuer.
Those last few minutes were insane. I was throwing everyone forward, even my center backs. Every attack I was thinking “this has to be the second goal”. But Manchester B just parked the bus and time-wasted. The ref added time and I still couldn’t get another one. Final whistle went at 1-0. I won the match but I lost the position. Because I only won by one goal, Liverpool’s GD was better so I had to step down to 3rd. If it was 2-0 I’d be 2nd. If it was 0-0 or I lost, I’d still be 2nd somehow because of other results. But 1-0 was the worst scoreline possible for me and that’s exactly what happened. I just turned off my controller and walked away for a bit because I was so mad.
I just sat there after the match staring at the table. Arsenal finished 3rd in the league. We won, we played decent, but the goal difference killed us. That one goal I couldn’t get is what cost me the whole season. It’s so annoying because if I’d just scored earlier or been more clinical, 2nd was mine. Instead I’m looking at Liverpool above me with better GD and I’m stuck in 3rd. That’s eFootball for you though. You can dominate the game, win the match, and still walk away feeling like you lost. Next season I’m scoring 3-0 minimum, I’m not letting GD decide it again. I’m already planning to grind more in preseason just so this never happens to me again.
