Yes, you are right. The people have to pay a high price for the political decisions made by the government. It is very saddening. Even now, recurring floods are happening in several areas of Sumatra. The mud carried by the floods remains piled up and hardened in residents’ homes without any intervention from the government. The mud that has turned into soil has buried houses up to three meters high. What can the affected residents do? Nothing. They have lost their homes, plantations, rice fields, fish ponds, and their livelihoods.
