“The wise have wealth and luxury, but fools spend whatever they get.” – Proverbs 21:20, NLT.
The wise man is able to store up wealth. Without financial discipline one can never achieve monetary goals. For some of us, our financial problem is due to our spending habit. Any money we get we spend it on ourselves without thinking about the future. So it is not really about the money, but what we do with the money that counts.
Practice savings. For every income/paycheck you receive pay yourself first. Deduct a percentage and put it in your savings account. Joseph said to Pharaoh to appoint a commissioner over the land to take a fifth of the harvest of Egypt during the seven years of abundance. The food was to be held in reserve for the country, to be used during the seven years of famine that will come upon Egypt, so that the country may not be ruined by the famine (Genesis 41:34-36).
Because of this advice Egypt was rather selling food to people during the famine period. Make a plan for spending your money before you actually spend it. Proverbs 21:5 says, “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.” Without proper planning nothing works. Have a financial plan for your life.
It is good to have a separate account for saving and checking. And also have a notepad to keep track of your spending. Without wisdom, planning and discipline we can never do anything meaningful with monies that come into our hands. God has promised to bless us, but we need to invest our money and practice savings to multiply it so that we can enjoy our future. Spend your money wisely.
