I cared for a few Alzheimer patients over my years as a community nurse most being in the early to middle stages of this terrible disease, unpredictable on occasions, I remember accompanying them to their doctors, escorted outings, memory thinking exercises and assessment all in the effort to retain as much memory and autonomy as possible, at the same time giving the spouse a much needed break.
