BC wouldn't be in Canada if it were not for lure of Klondike gold and thus the urgency to put the railroad into the West Coast as a condition of joining the Confederation.
I read somewhere on RCM literature (mint.ca somewhere) that the RCM policy is that the gold should be sourced from BC mines in the historic Klondike region as is the policy with the Gold Maple Leaf is required to be sourced from Canadian mines. This kind of policy has been practiced in the past as to make the coin more numismaticaly relevant but adds to the premium as well.
