Many types of ships were contracted by the East India Company to ply the company's trade routes but the hallmark ship built by the EIC is the East Indiaman class of merchant ship with it's decently armed to cargo capacity ratio. They often sailed in groups for safety in numbers. Pirates are always a threat but the EIC do have ships that were more configured for fighting and protection when needed.
