Stand by.
Lieutenant @lupega's eyes narrowed to a few vague flickering pixels at the top right corner of his heads up display. He instantly centers and narrows the passive scan to that point. The 3D navigational chart overlay tags the context of stars; Rigel, Betelgeuse, Bellatrix, Saiph instantly recognizable as the Orion Constellation. His years of experience as Tactical officer, First class earned him this position and the trust of the Command staff of the SS Silverton VII. The original Silverton was a sailing frigate under the Scottish navy many centuries ago when with her much storied and legendary history was forged under the command of the celebrated Captain
@joshuaslane. Since then the name established a reputable pedigree for any ship to bear the Silverton name.
The SS Silverton VII is the seventh vessel endowed with that name and along with it the weight of heavy expectations upon her namesake. She was launched from the Helios Shipyards berth Alpha in 2126 as a new minted Cutlass class frigate. He remembers his early lessons as a Class three officer learning the ropes. No matter how small a signal, every sensory disturbance must be examined before the senior officer signs it off. A poingient lesson that left him in temporary charge of the MT-10C maintenance drones polishing off the carbon scoring off the ship’s silver alabastive composite armored hull. Lupega dialed up the passive scan ping rate 15%. The flicker was more regular indicating a familiar residual energy profile, “Contact!” The atmosphere on the command bridge shifted to the next level of readiness, the crew’s attention heightened and any cross chattered ceased. “Tactical prime reports a signal at 040 mark 112 mark 320.”
The Commander patently steps to his station, “Lieutenant, can you identify the signal yet?” said Commander Galligan.
The Silverton’s data base searched algorithm was still attempting to auto-identify and resolve to the standard 80% certainty but he could already tell that this was something brand new. “Based on the low mass, distance and energy emission my experience says it is a foreign unclassified probe.” replied Lupega.
“Confirming a Scanning signal emission as a class 3 general military grade spectrum scan... a probe.” reported Officer @bleujay, “No life forms detected Commander.”
“Affirmative officer bleujay. There's a possible war brewing with the Krexx Dominion so we better get a closer look at this just to be sure. Helmsman, lay in a course to pass within 300 kilometers from this probe at a unintimidating half speed. That will give the us enough time to identify and determine it's purpose here near the New Caledonia colony”
"Relaxed approach vector gamma... telemetry to confirm for 300 km for eye contact in 25.5 minutes at half speed, sair..?" replied @trumpman.
The Commander nodded, "Confirmed, execute maneuver at your leisure Mr. Trumpman."
"Aye, aye Commander! !PIMP"
