Pain is such a needy creature, it begs to be felt all the time; time has taught that if you don't mind pain, then it could not hurt, or that it can no longer keep you chained in its arms wrapped too tightly around your neck.
It's all a lie of course.
Pain, you see, never did quite understand the likeness of time, it simply is.
Contrary to what mouths and fingers often say about how it is only time who can heal the wounds of almost forgotten yesterdays— but the devastating pain from ten years ago still feels as fresh as if you've just had your heart cut wide open yesterday with the words "I'm leaving, and I'm never coming back".
Pain is persistent and refuses to go away even if you ask nicely; we can only endure all that we could and pray for strength to impossibly bear even more.
