It is always nice to do a couple of research on Google, watch some 'how to' videos on places like YouTube or even attend seminars.
For the most part, we do these because we want to learn a thing or two from a content creator or speaker... whatever the case may be. But, nobody likes to waste time on a seminar where there is nothing reasonable to be learnt there.
I'm saying this from experience;
It can be very difficult to be present in a seminar where the speaker is speaking on a topic without having a fairly sufficient knowledge about the topic.
It brings back memories of some of the lectures I attended during my Uni days as a Nigerian student. I can still recall a whole lot of those and how boring these lectures were.
Of course, lecturers are not there to make students laugh, but when lectures are all about sitting down for two hours to hear lecturers read textbooks non-stop...,
...that should count as a minus point to them in their lecturing career.
This has to be said, okay?
One of the such lectures that come to mind is 'Macroecomics', a course I took in my sophomore year. Even my primary school teachers would have done a better job handling that course than the lecturer who was in charge of the course.
He always read from a handout which was downloaded from several websites. He copied each definition and write-up for every topic and subtopic word-for-word from various sources, arranged them in a handout and sold these to students. As a Nigerian reading this, you can already have your guess about what will happen to those that fail to buy this Plagiarised handout. Lolz.
It's still funny how I met the same lecturer in my penultimate year as the head lecturer for 'Banking Laws and Ethics'. It was a bizarre experience. Ha had one of those unique handouts of his and we all had to squeeze out #2500 for the handout. I wonder how we all survived sitting in that lecture hall for 2 hours every week to hear him read exactly what is in the handout.
Such lectures are usually the most boring. I saw them as a waste of time since everyone can still read the textbook whenever they want and see whatever is written there. But, I couldn't miss the classes because you need 75% attendance for each course before you will be eligible to seat for the exam.
Well, those days are over for me.
Only God knows how excited I feel whenever I remember that I'm no longer a Nigerian student in search of a B.Sc. Haha.
Students, how do you cope with these sorta lectures?
Thanks For Not Missing Any Full-stop Or Comma
