I've learned that if you go into a job that you find to be detestable, you will have a very miserable experience in every moment you spend on that job. That's not even the worst. The worst side of this is that you will end up making those around you miserable because you will hardly give your best and this will in turn lead to some sort of animosity between you and those you work with.
If this is the case, then, it's pretty obvious that every one of us will be prioritizing working on a job that whets our appetite and suits our passion. That should be a no-brainer, but how many people enjoy the work they are doing? Only a few! We all know that money must be made and if that money has to be made doing something we genuinely detest, a whole lot of people will gladly take up the job.
Think about that for a minute...
When I talk about jobs and tell people that I said goodbye to the Banking sector despite having an opportunity to receive a monthly paycheck from there, a lot of people think I'm being hyperbolic. But that's not the case. Of course, I enjoyed being on the job while I was there and I enjoyed getting those monthly paychecks, but I was quite futuristic and I didn't have being a Banker on my bingo card.
Now, let's address the main question in this discussion;
Is there a job I will never do regardless of the attractiveness of the paycheck?
I wish money was never an issue. Once money is no longer a problem, there will be so many jobs I wouldn't even look at and you would be surprised that jobs you count as A-List jobs are on my list. However, since money is a big incentive and I've already become accustomed to breaking myself in half to make money, the list of jobs I wouldn't do even when a huge pay is on the line has drastically reduced to 1.
Just one... Police.
This is quite ironic because part of the things I would love to do if I had the resources is forensic science and crime scene investigation. I hope to do that in the most scientific way possible and I know part of the job of the Police is to do thorough crime scene investigation.
However, I'm in Nigeria and I can't boast of the investigation procedure visible in our Police Force. Besides, the reputation of the entire Police is already dragged through the mud and their members are shamelessly heading down an incorrigible path. I don't have a lot of good experience with the Police and I'm a model citizen. Haha. However, HERE IS one of many posts which I've written about terrible incidents involving our Police.
I just don't see the amount of money, chances of promotion and promise of job security that will make me enrol to wear the badge of the Nigerian Police Force. I know that sh*t happens in life, but I wouldn't want to experience any happenstances that will force my hand and make me get into our Police Force.
The mere thought of it is making me cringe like crazy.
