I've heard that flower grows well when it hears nice words but withers when it hears bad words. Little wonder why being loose-tongued is such a minus point for anyone that has a duty of care.
In case you don't know, the things we say have a tendency of healing or hurting people. A well thought out word can serve as an encouragement and inspiration. That's why we ought to be mindful of what we say and whom we have on the listening end.
These days, irrespective of the situation, people are advised to say nice words, especially those who are surrounded by kids. To be fair, everyone irrespective of their age deserves to hear nice words but my focus is on kids since most of them are not mentally strong enough to deal with the ripple effect of negative words.
Lemme ask;
Why do people cuss kids that are under their care?
Any idea?
You might think that cussing kids is something that is only done by a wicked housemaid, but I beg to differ. Parents open their mouths to rain abusive words on their kids. Same with teachers who are supposed to be professional in their approach. It makes no sense.
I get it. I understand that kids can be annoying. Tell them to do 'dis', they will neglect it and do 'dat'. Tell them to stay indoors and they will suddenly develop an awkward adventurous appetite to go for a walk. Yeah, they can be that annoying and I know this. In such situations, parents or anyone taking care of such a kid can become angry.
That's also normal, but! Don't develop the habit of cussing a kid because of their action. I've heard parents and teachers alike tell a kid that he/she is 'useless' or 'good for nothing. When kids hear such words repeatedly from parents/guardians, you can only imagine the effect it will have on them as they grow older.
There is always a better alternative
Instead of cussing your kid for not getting an excellent result, chose to give them words of encouragement. Get an extra tutor that will help in their academics or play your role in tutoring them. When your kid misbehaves, point out what they did wrong and correct their misbehaviour.
I'm not saying that you can't get angry. Be angry, but don't cuss your child no matter the height of your anger. I reckon it will be more effective to use good words as one of the many strategies of parenting.
Try it and watch your child grow up to become a decent human with every breath he/she takes.
