Conversations are supposed to be filled with deep thought, free expression of one's opinion and an expression of intellectual curiosity. This is not just an ideology for interaction between people. That's how it is meant to be and we need to start putting these into perspective whenever we are in a conversation.

From the above intro to the discussion, it's obvious that the three major elements that have to be visible in conversations are;

1. Deep Thinking: I like to simply see this as 'thinking it through before we say anything'. And, this is a very important aspect of every conversation we are having whether it's a vocal conversation or texting. It's not just enough to say something, you have to be sure that you are thinking it through before you say anything. Else, you will end up saying things that are complete bloody nonsense.

2. Free expression of one's opinion: I've been in situations where I will be at risk of offending someone with my opinion and I know it's a tough situation to be in. In situations like that, people are usually tempted to say things they don't mean for the sake of pleasing their listener, but that's a counterproductive approach to conversations. You can see it this way; What's the point of having conversations if you are not going to express your opinion?

3. An expression of intellectual curiosity: This may be the toughest element of conversation, especially for those who are fluent and articulated speakers. They believe they know what they are saying and they are always ready to say more things and prove their point. However, you will often notice that they can be in a conversation with someone, but they are not curious enough to listen to what the other person is saying.

There is something serious at the root of every conversation and there is something to learn or teach during conversations. That's why it's important to consider the aforementioned elements during conversations. It's not like we can exist alone in a shell. Conversing with people is a part and parcel of our existence.

So, how about you learn to do it the right way?

I genuinely believe that anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Improving your communication skill may not be on the list of your 10 priorities, but it's a skill worth having. For someone that gets into a whole lot of conversations each day, I can tell you without a doubt that being in a conversation with someone good at it makes it so much easier to learn from each conversation, even if it's a debate.

With all I've said so far, it's important to note that when you are in any conversation, it is your right to speak freely, but it is also required of you to take responsibility for everything you said. This is exactly why you have to think things through before you say it.

Which other thing do you think is necessary to make each conversation a teaching and learning opportunity?
