Good way to use extra time! I imagine a lot of people have been upping their cooking skills during the lockdown.

One correction for you:
I was cooking more complicated meals than usual while staying at home because I had more free time.

Use during with nouns. Use while with ~ing verbs.
"my free time was increased" is OK, but "I had more free time" is more natural.
