Sirmione Castle

Sirmione's castle is one of the most complete and best preserved in Italy. Two crenellated towers stand out impressively, symbol of the power of Mastino I Della Scala who started first phase of construction of the fortress about 1259.

Sirmione Castle sits on a spit jutting out into the waters of the lake Garda on the shore of an Italian commune of the same name. The castle was built in 13th century and displaces many elements from the high middle ages and including crenulated walls and towers. A highly visited feature of this structure is the main tower from which the lake and castle courtyard are visible. The moat surrounding the castle is now the waiting ground of duck and swans and It's not used for defensive purposes.

A unique feature of this already singular castle is It's fortified port used both for access to the castle and for deploying ships into battle. Medieval Sirmione Castle is a perfect platform for viewing the landscape and surrounding city.
