What a thought-provoking piece and I believe almost everyone can relate to it in some way. Most parents want what's best for their children but their unfulfilled dreams can sometimes warp that feeling into wanting a second chance at life through their children. And that's where I believe things go wrong. Every person is an independent being with their own agency. No child should be pushed into a life that isn't theirs. They should be encouraged to pursue what genuinely makes them happy rather than be forced to love what their parents expect of them.
I'm glad Charlotte stood up for her son. I felt Richard was mean to reduce Franco's future to a scholarship and a letterman jacket as though those were the only things that could give his life value.
The ending is my favourite part of this story. Franco becoming a wildlife biologist and making sure his mother had a home with his family feels like a beautiful full circle. A well-written and touching story! Thanks for sharing. Take care.
