It's a large market filled with different shops and shopping complexes where you can get all kinds of electronic devices of all brands that you can think of. Ranging from personal computers to desktop computers, laptops, mobile phones, tablets etc. Also, popular brands like Hewlett-Packard (hp), Samsung, Techno, Ginoee, Nokia, Dell, Lenovo etc have their offices here.
My colleague and I took the overhead bridge to cross to the other side where the market is situated. I stopped to take a picture of the dual carriageway and surrounding. Lovely, yes?
We needed a new printer to replace the old one in my office as the old one had stopped working. I went to the computer village yesterday with a colleague to purchase a fairly used one.
It's the norm here that the fairly used electronic devices which we call tokunbo (meaning from overseas) are stronger and longer-lasting than the brand new ones. Actually, this is not true but we have somehow convinced ourselves that it's true.
When we can't afford the brand new ones, we go for the fairly used ones. Some people just prefer to buy the fairly used ones even when they can afford the new ones. As I said, it's a norm.
The management in my workplace instructed us to get a fairly used one. I already have a seller I patronize from whom I bought my pc last year so I took my colleague there. Here's a section of the Computer Village and you can see the fairly used computer systems displayed outside of the shop.
The prices range from N40,000 ($75) to N80,000 ($155) based on the RAM and storage unit of the computer. The fairly-used printers go for almost the same price.
After much talk and exercising my negotiation skills (I'm very good at this, hehe), I was able to beat the price down a bit and we bought this fairly used printer at N60,000 ($115) approximately.
Hopefully, this three-in-one printer will last us a little longer than the old one. This ends my trip to Computer Village. I hope to bring you more stunning photos of other sections when next I visit this market.
