Happy Wednesday Hivers!
If there's an animal that I could pet, a rabbit would be the first to cross my mind. When I look at them, I don't feel any sense of anxiety. They seem so gentle and vulnerable. Do you know that there's a well-known place in Negros Oriental with many adorable rabbits? They call the place Rabbiton.
Rabbiton is one of the tourist spots in Pamplona, Negros Oriental, famous for its adorable rabbits and hobbit houses. It is nestled in the middle of a vast field of sugarcane. The place is accessible only by motorcycles and private vehicles. The travel time takes approximately 1 hour from Dumaguete City.
While traveling towards the place, I was thoroughly entertained by the coconut trees lining up on both sides of the well-cemented road. The experience of passing through that road was quite rare, as I don't often encounter it in the city. I asked my friend to slow down so that we could savor the moment.
But as we almost reached the place, a rough and dusty road greeted us. It was my first time in the area, and I was quite surprised as we passed through that road and saw the enormous sugarcane plants. I didn't expect that it was situated in such a location. Since we were already close to the entrance of Rabbiton, I jumped off the motorcycle and began exploring the place.
Until I reached the entrance area.....
...and a large Rabbiton logo welcomed me.
The surroundings were quiet as we arrived. I expected there to be many guests because it was the weekend, but I was surprised to find out that they had temporarily closed due to ongoing renovations. We were fortunate that they allowed us to enter. I'm sure this area wouldn't be empty if the normal operation continued. Perhaps there would be children fighting to use the swing.
I got stamped after paying the entrance fee, which cost me Php50.00, or around almost $1.
On our way to explore inside the place, we were warned by the in-charge that most of their herbs in the tea garden and flowers in the flower village had been greatly damaged due to the crazy and extreme weather.
I only saw a few unhealthy herbs, with some of them dying. Roses were the only flowers left in their flower village.
But did you know that the place has many Philippine lime (calamansi) plants? In fact, most of them were already bearing fruits.
Since my friend had already visited the place many times, she led me to some interesting spots, such as this turtleton area. According to her, there used to be many turtles here, but we only saw one big turtle that time. Maybe some have died already.
This area is filled with many native cottages. Don't worry if you get tired while exploring the whole place, because you can take a rest at their cottages.
And finally, I got to see many bunnies around. Some of them were playing outside their resting area, while others were just staying inside, enjoying moments of blankly staring.
My friend tried to feed one bunny, but the bunny just stared at the leaf she had offered.
After entertaining ourselves with the adorable bunnies for a few minutes, we left the area and headed to the elevated part, which offered a stunning and relaxing view. My friend jokingly told me the reason behind the presence of a huge chair up there. They have a tree giant (Capri) friend who guards the place. And then she laughed.
Since we are not abundant in this kind of view in the city, we ended up staying a little longer under the avocado trees. How could someone want to leave such a place that offers an idyllic view.
As much as our hearts wanted to stay, we needed to get up as we still had spots to visit. We descended until I saw small houses resembling those from the hobbit movie/series. Just call me childish, but the sight gave me a jubilant feeling, finally seeing them with my own eyes. I had only seen such houses in a movie or series before.
Next, we descended again until we finally reached the rabbit house. There were so many rabbits inside. It's no wonder why there were many people who had visited here during normal operations. We weren't allowed to go inside, so we just snapped photos from outside the fence.
We went back to the entrance area where the restaurant was located. Unfortunately, there was no food available as the place is temporarily closed. I can imagine how nice it would have been to eat with such a lovely view.
After strolling around the place, we headed back home, as my friend had an important matter to attend to.
For now, this is our last travel together, as I have had a sudden change of plans. Leaving Dumaguete created a little bit of pain due to its cozy atmosphere. However, continuing to live there no longer aligns with my dreams. Goodbye for now, Dumaguete, and I will see you soon.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
