When it comes to sports, I’d say the Philippines doesn’t fall behind. We have quite a few Filipinos who have made a name for themselves in the world of sports. Manny Pacquiao, for example, became internationally famous in boxing and won multiple world championships.
If you visit the Philippines, you’ll find sports complexes in many municipalities. These sports facilities are a huge help, especially for young people who are passionate about sports. They give them a place where they can train, develop their skills, and pursue the sports they enjoy.
In Baybay City, Leyte, there’s a huge and newly built sports complex called the Binaybayon Sports Complex. It’s located in Barangay Hibunawan, Baybay City, Leyte. Baybay is one of the cities in Leyte and is considered one of the more progressive and developing cities in the province.
If you’re coming from Hindang, the municipality where I live, it takes approximately 45 minutes to get there. You can take a bus or a van to Baybay. So, come with me and let’s check out what the Binaybayon Sports Complex looks like!
I came across this sports complex on Facebook because it hosted the EVRAA Meet 2026, a regional sports competition attended by students from different schools across the region. I was really amazed by how beautiful and impressive the sports complex looked.
The grand opening ceremony was held at the newly built complex, where they showcased its Roman Colosseum-inspired grandstand façade. Seeing the photos from the event really made me want to see the place for myself.
I told my mom about this sports complex, and she got really excited about visiting it with me. So, the moment we entered through the gate, we could already see the Roman Colosseum-inspired grandstand façade.
As soon as I stepped inside the complex, I honestly felt like I was somewhere in Europe. The architecture was so impressive that it didn’t even feel like we were in the Philippines!
Europe is actually one of the places I’ve always dreamed of visiting someday, so seeing something like this made me really happy. It gave me a little taste of that European feeling, even though I’m still here in the Philippines.
When we arrived at the sports complex, a security guard greeted us and told us that we couldn’t enter because we weren’t wearing proper sports attire. Apparently, wearing sports attire is mandatory in the complex.
There was a notice posted about the sports attire requirement, but we didn’t notice it. I don’t think we would have known about the rule if the guard hadn’t pointed it out to us. The notice wasn’t posted directly at the main entrance; it was placed off to the side, so we didn’t see it when we arrived.
My mom was only wearing slippers, and although I was wearing shoes, they weren’t considered proper sports attire either. We had no idea that there was such a requirement.
So I asked the guard if I could at least go inside to take a look at the athletic stadium and grandstand since I was wearing shoes. He allowed me to enter, as long as I didn’t actually go onto the stadium track or oval area. My mom had to stay outside and wait for me.
When I went inside, I saw some young people jogging around the track, while others were doing some kind of training. I wasn’t quite sure what they were training for, but it was nice to see young people making use of the facility. Because the stadium was so huge, though, they looked like tiny ants from where I was standing.
I didn’t go to the other side of the complex because I had promised the guard that I wouldn’t go beyond the area he allowed me to access. Even though there were restrictions, I was still grateful that he let me take a look around.
According to the guard, the sports complex isn’t 100% complete yet, but at least some of its facilities are already being used. I also wasn’t able to check out the huge swimming pool because I wasn’t wearing proper sports attire.
Despite the restrictions during our visit, I’m still thankful that I got the chance to see this amazing sports complex in person. The architecture was so impressive that, for a moment, it felt like I had stepped into Europe.
And of course, this visit made me appreciate even more how sports facilities like this can give young athletes a place to train, develop their skills, and pursue the sports they love. Hopefully, the entire complex will be fully completed soon so more people can enjoy and make use of it.
So, that’s it for our little visit to the Binaybayon Sports Complex. Even though I couldn’t explore everything this time, I’m glad I got to see it, and who knows, maybe we’ll come back someday when it’s fully completed and I’m wearing the proper sports attire! 😂
