This actually reminded me of a story from one of my colleagues. She had a dog that she had to leave behind when she moved to an apartment closer to the office. She would only go home on weekends to see her dog.

After she moved, her dog slowly started to become weak. It stopped playing, lost its appetite, and eventually became so ill that it passed away.

I don’t know if the situation was directly related to her being away.
