Happy Saturday Hivers!
Have you already seen Dao Tree? Do you know that there is an approximately 200 year-old Dao Tree in Tuburan, Cebu? Check this out.
Dracontomelon Dao, also known as the New Guinea Wallnuts, Pacific Wallnut, Lamyo, or Paldo, is tropical canopy tree distinguished mostly by its height (reaching up to about 45 meters or 148 feet), for its greyish-brown trunk which is branchless up to about 20m (66 ft.) and for its narrow buttresses which can reach up its trunk up to 6m (20 ft.) high.

The day prior to my Tuburan trip, I made a research first about the place. Since I've seen few numbers of interesting tourist spots in Tuburan, I didn't waste my time to search for another place to visit. I immediately packed my things up and travelled to Tuburan on the next day.
Tuburan is located in the northern part of Cebu. The place is abundant of water from springs; creeks; and rivers.
As I alighted from the bus, there were many motorcycle drivers greeted me and asked my destination. One of them was Kuya Reminte. He was the one whom I chose and negotiated for my itinerary.
In the afternoon, he took me to Baranggay Jagbuaya where the oldest tree is located. Actually, the Dao tree is situated beside the river but since it was not raining few days already, it made the river dry.
I walked slowly while I was going to the Dao tree. The sounds of the bamboo trees swaying and birds tweeting had really entertained me. It was very peaceful since no one was around except me and the driver, however, I felt a little bit scared since the place is surrounded with many small and big trees.
In the Philippines, some people believed that there are invisible creatures who live in the big trees. We might see it as a normal tree but for them it is their mansion.
Kuya Reminte told me that some people who lived nearby shared their strange story about this tree. At night, this tree was covered with many fireflies. It made the tree became bright. This story is not new to me since I grew up in a countyside and I've heard a lot of stories same as this. It seems that the huge trees will turn into a magical tree at night. I already saw it with my own eyes as we also have huge tree beside our house in Leyte. But I don't know how true it is about the invisible creatures who live there.
As I stood in front of the Dao Tree, I was somehow speechless because the size of the tree is huge even the roots. It is truly giant and beautiful.
Have you clearly seen the big and strong roots? According to Kuya Reminte, despite the strong typhoons came in the place but this Dao was still able to withstand from the strong current of water and strong winds. Amazing, right?
This is a private own area. There was a time that the owner of this land had planned to cut down this tree, however, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) did not allow them.
According to Kuya Reminte, the LGU would like preserve this precious heritage as this is the only oldest tree left in Tuburan.
Today, the Local Government Unit in Tuburan, Cebu has made the Dao Tree as one of their tourist attractions.
Have you already seen Dao Tree? Is it also huge like the one I just shared with you? Drop a comment below.
Thank you for reading and see you on my next blog. Cheers!
