I would not deny that even I already visited Oslob few times but my heart wants to keep coming back. When I had series of trips in the Southern part of Cebu, that was 2 months ago, I included Oslob on my list.
Why?
Because the locals are friendly; the place is pristine and quite; and the place is also rich of historical sites & tourist attractions.
But before I will share with you the historical sites in Oslob let me share with you first the short details about Oslob. It is located in the southern part of Cebu and considered as the 4th class Municipality in the province of Cebu, Philippines. If you're coming from Cebu City, it is the town after Boljoon. Have you heard the famous attraction Whale Shark Watching in the South? Well, that is located in Oslob, Cebu.
The Immaculada Concepcion Parish Church
I woke up early that day because my plan was to catch the sunrise. The estimated travel time from Samboan to Oslob is around 1 hour so at around 4:00 o'clock in the morning I got up from bed and fixed myself.
I headed to the bus terminal which luckily situated near the place where I stay. As I checked the time, it was almost 6:00 so I waited few minutes for the 6:00 o'clock trip.
The sun was already rising as I arrived. The wonderful scenery really made my day an extraordinary one.
My first stopped was in The Immaculada Church. I wanted to start my day to visit the sacred place.
If you look at the outer view of the church, it is obvious that this church was built long time ago because of the structure and the materials used. But if you will get inside, things was far different from outside. They already have modernized it. When you look at the ceiling, there are biblical images painted on it.
After offering my prayer and writing love letter to God and dropped it to the petition box, I went outside. By the way, in the Philippines we used to write our love letter to God and drop it in the petition box. It is believed that the Monks; Priests; and Nuns' prayers are more powerful. So most of the time when I saw a petition box at the church, I write love letter to God.
I'd read this history outside the church.
Built through the benefice of the King of Spain, the Immaculada Concepcion Parish Church in Oslob took around 17 years to finish. Proof of this is a relief of the Spanish Monarch's seal on the church pediment encircled by text stating that "His excellency and most Illustrious Lord Santos Gomes Marañon made the plan for this church which was began on the 10th of May in the year 1830". The construction was deemed finished after 17 years of labor on September 15,1847.

It is situated near the Parish Church in Oslob. Actually, it is very close to the church.
I remember the first time I went there, I was with my friends. Since that was our first time, we took a lot of photos and we also had our mandatory jump shot (lol).
The structure itself speaks that the Cuartel was built long time ago. Why did they build it? Check this out.
Cuartel is an unfinished structure built during the Spanish colonization made through the effort of El Gran Maestro Don Marcus Sabandal. It was initially planned to house the Spanish army and was suppossed to take part in the first line of defense of the Spaniards during the attack of the Moros; however, the construction was put on hold following the arrival of the Americans.

The Local Government Unit (LGU) in Oslob has turned this Cuartel into a tourist spot and now it is one of the famous tourist attractions here in Oslob, Cebu.
This is not the first time I posted about Baluarte. Because other neighboring towns have also built their own and I already posted it here.
Since I wanted you to know about the details of Oslob Baluarte, you may read the informations below. This was posted on Baluarte's wall.
This Baluarte was built in the same as the Construction of the fortress of Daanlungsod in 1788. It is one of the seven watchtowers built along the coastline of Oslob. It has hexagonal plan; massive crenellated walls; gunslits; and a small entrance. It occupies an area roughly 48 square meters, and with a height of about 7 meters.
Who is Fr. Julian Bermejo?
According to history, Fr. Julian Bermejo was responsible in devising strong and effective coastal defense system (Baluarte) made of Coastal stone and lime mortar that served as lookout station in detecting the coming of Moropirate ships.
If you're looking around, you will notice how the LGU in Oslob have taken care the place. The place is tidy and well-maintained.
That was another piece of history in the southern part of Cebu.
