Bad weather is often a great excuse to get the camera out.
This morning I took a walk in the rain and decided to look for raindrops on flowers.
I figured the raindrops would show up nicely on tulips and perhaps on some other flowers too.
The overcast sky provides soft, indirect light and muted colours. Much more attractive than bright glaring sunshine.
I did occasionally find it a bit difficult to lock focus. It wasn't always easy to tell if my camera was locked on properly but it's no big deal... I just made sure to take a couple of extra shots if I wasn't certain.
The drops showed up nicely on these Iris flowers. Broad flat surfaces seem to work best. Some of the tiny wildflowers I shot didn't look that great.
I can't really make out the raindrops here but I still liked this little cluster of flowers. I always try to find a subject with some space behind it in order to enhance the background blur. I don't own a macro lens. These shots were all made with my 55-200mm telephoto.
If you look closely at this last shot you will see a few raindrops falling. I used to think that a long shutter speed would show the drops as streaks but that's not the case... a faster speed like the 1/1000 second used here will have a better chance of catching the falling rain.
Of course, if you really gotta prove you were out in the rain for some reason, just aim at a puddle... and maybe bring a friend to cast a reflection for you! :-)
All photos were made by me using a Fuji X-T4 and 55-200mm lens. Thanks a lot for taking a look!
