DETAILS AND SWEET TALES

The need to pay attention to details is one that cannot be overemphasized. Once, a man had said he had thought he was asked to crush when all the instruction said was that he should simply flush. Sometimes back, a kid came home with her face swollen. Obviously, she had been crying. When asked what happened, she said she failed her A'grade exam. How? Why? What happened? were the questions she got as a reaction to her response. Of course, she was a bright kid, one that attended classes and was diligent to her studies. In fact, she attended extra classes after school. Her mom was inquisitive and eager to know why her bright daughter would fail her exam. The following day, she drove straight to her school before heading for the office and there the teacher told her; Ma, the instruction was to tick the correct answer in the spaces provided but instead your daughter shaded. He brought out her script which he showed to her.
She failed not because she got the answers wrong but because she got the instructions wrong. The power of details!

Paying attention to details is essential. The girl came home with a bad report, her mom went there confirmed it and also brought a bad report. The fact is, the girl could have been all smiles with her mother being glad and proud of her bright daughter who had done well in her exams but the reverse was the case.
Now, I would like you to pay attention to something. The girl and her mom both came back with reports. However, one of the reports was different. While the girl report was shallow, straight forward and couldn't account for the cause of her failure her mom's report was detailed because it could not just tell that she failed but it could answer the question; why did she fail?

     While you read through this, you should understand that there are several factors that could have been labelled as the cause for her failure but her mother went an extra mile. She didn't just sit in the comfort of her room and assume that something was either wrong with her daughter, the teachers, the school authority, her extra classes etc. 

With her mom's detailed report the girl got to learn that next time it is of utmost importance that she pay attention to the instructions while writing an exam.
