Losing a job can be disheartening, it's like losing a loved one.
Only difference here is no human is involved.
Your job soon becomes a loved possession.
You look forward to being there everyone regardless of the renumeration package involved.
This often explains why a sudden termination can be heart wrenching.
Even an anticipated termination is mind boggling and when it eventually happens this turbulence of emotions felt cannot be overlooked.
The initial shock the news brings oftentimes requires strong will not to produce tears.
The pain that clogs at the heart often twists like the wrenching of water from washed fabric.
The pain can sometimes literally be woven.
Then comes the denial stage, you ask rhetoric questions as to why it had to be you.
You summon the courage to laugh, you know the laughter is not deep.
It really is just a covering for the pain felt within.
Realization hits you when you wake the next morning and there's no where to go.
You revel in the sweet laziness of not jumping off bed to make the usual ritual of a preparation.
You remind yourself that you needed the break from the daily ritual anyway.
Then comes the blame stage.
At this point pangs of guilt fill you
You think of times when you neglected your duties and how you could have treated your job with better regard, perhaps you would still be working.
You blame yourself for not trying your best to adhere to all the rules of your employer which you think would have helped you retain your lost estate.
Resentment sets in gradually as your blame gives way to arrogance.
You blame your employer for laying you off and you count it his loss!
You did your best! You gave your all ad much as you could. If he wasn't pleased then that's his business you say!
You're now angry with your organisation for treating you wrongly!
The days pass by quietly and every reminder that you once had a job brings pain to your heart.
It's obvious to you now, your time there has elapsed and your page in that book has been flipped!
Whether it is the pain of leaving wonderful colleagues behind
Or the pain of missing out on salary
Perhaps the fact that you could have resigned before now.
No one likes been treated badly
Just like in a relationship break up
You hurt more because you didn't initiate the break up.
You're hurting because you didn't break up with your employer
Instead he broke up with you.
Give and take, there's been a break....
Release yourself to better thoughts
Release yourself to great ideas.
Celebrate yourself!
Go out, have a treat
Breathe in fresh air, smell the flowers and smile.
When your heart is clear, look within
Inside you would spring forth ideas that you would courageously pursue and years down the line you would look back and know that indeed it was time to flip the page!
