Today we are back in my home country, Germany. Namely in Rostock, where my sister lives. Today it should be about the marina Hohe Düne.
I went for a walk there the other day. It's really nice to get to know new parts of Rostock.
In the marina Hohe Düne, directly at the Baltic Sea, there are 920 berths - at eleven wooden planked concrete floating pontoons (Maybe I will park my boat here later, if I should have one - I want to do a sailing course this summer).
Directly at the marina there is a 5-star Marina Hohe Düne - hotel with bars and restaurant - it is really a nice place to spend your vacation.
In general, the whole area around the port, but especially the port itself is kept very clean and decorated with modern buildings.
In fact, the marina is probably decorated with 5 stars - thought that was only for restaurants ?!
In addition, there is a clubhouse with harbor master. The clubhouse even has an internet sea weather station and an interactive ship map.
But now enough advertising made ;))
You can try a lot of adventure sports at the marina Hohe Düne - this goes from the Marine Science Center to sailing, diving, water sports courses, yacht charter and a sports boat license that you can make here.
I don't want to tell you too much about the Marine Science Center (because I will report about my visit to the center in a separate post). Only so much:
The marina Hohe Düne houses Europe's largest seal research center, the Marine Science Center. A whole nine seals live here and can be observed. What I found very fascinating was that the research center was not located in a house but floated, so to speak. There are many experts here who continue to research the behavior and the seals in general.
And sailing can be learned here. There is a course offer for beginners or advanced. I am very excited about this course in the summer! Otherwise, you still have the possibility to learn diving. You can even swim with the seals from the Marine Center. Or make a wreck dive.
There are different offers, for example you can admire a 25 meter long shipwreck or a crashed English bomber from the 2nd World War. And all this at great landscapes: stone fields, sea grass meadows and mussel beds.
And now to Hohe Düne itself:
Hohe Düne is a Baltic seaside resort and also a district of Rostock. The district is known because of the naval base of the German Navy. In addition, there is a 25-meter high pilot station on the sea channel and the marina of which I just told you. Hohe Düne can be reached by car ferry from Warnemünde or from the east via Hinrichshagen and Markgrafenheide.
Warnemünde and Hohe Düne, both seaside resorts and districts of the Hanseatic city of Rostock, are separated by the Mittelmole and the Neuer Strom.
And why is Hohe Düne called Hohe Düne? That is relatively easy to answer, it comes from the high dune, which used to be located near the mouth of the Warnow River. The place itself can be reached via the ferry in Warnemünde, through the Warnow tunnel or through the Rostock Heath via Hinrichshagen.
And now to the beach of Hohe Düne, which you can see well in my last pictures: I like it very much, because here are few people and there is a lot of nature. If you go along the beach in the direction of Markgrafenheide, you will find more visitors.
