I have loved mystery - thrillers since I was a kid and first read an Agatha Christie book.

Especially those old-fashioned murder mysteries, make you believe you are a detective yourself, trying to find the truth.

You observe every detail, everyone, and try to understand (well, to guess) who the killer may be.

But usually what is revealed at the end, is what gives the true answer.

The Final Problem is a fresh new short mini series, taking place in 1959. As per the scenario, thirteen people find themselves trapped on a small island during a storm.

Of course, there is someone found dead (a beautiful young woman), and everything points to a suicide.

But is it?

Noone is more suitable to investigate than Basil, who is a retired actor, well known for his Sherlock Holmes (solving mysteries) roles.

The costumes, atmosphere, sceneries are really good and convincing. An isolated setting, a storm and power generators off, that leaves wondering what may be happening in the dark. The feeling that everyone is hiding something, but what could be so dangerous to bring out one (or more) deaths?

A classic whodunit atmosphere.

Here, everyone has a story and everyone is looking suspicious. Are there clues everywhere, or are you just overthinking everything you see?

Even though there are not so many different location, in my opinion, the production has done a great job of taking us back in time and showing the right mood. The costumes, style of actors, and cars should be also mentioned.

They help bring the 1950s setting to life, while the overall visual atmosphere fits the story nicely.

The actors who were selected were top notch and contribute to making this little world even more believable. Such a story depends very much on the personas, their expressions and secrets they may be keeping.

In a 'whodunnit' story, it is very important not only who says it, but how it is being expressed.

If you noticed the front image, the rating out of 2.7K persons is 6.3/10

There are 4 not too long episodes that are really easy and enjoyable to watch.

Overall, I enjoyed watching it a lot.

Is it the best mystery thriller I have ever watched? I would not go so far, but it did keep me entertained and give me a reason to keep watching to the end. There were some really smart plot twists until the very end.

And here comes my confession: I actually fell asleep during the last episode! 😂 But I assure you, it was not because of the film (even though there are parts where there is much talking and discussions, but it is because of the specific style)

I enjoyed the series as a whole, and I don't think one sleepy evening is a reason to decrease its overall rating which is ... 6.5/10

I recommend it if you enjoy mystery stories, classic whodunits, suspicious characters and plot twists, especially in an old movie setting. The atmosphere is well recreated, the costumes work nicely, and the actors help bring the story to life.

Would I recommend it? Yes. Especially for a relaxed evening when you are in the mood for a mystery and want to test your detective skills. (I really must tag agmoore@agmoore here .. Please let me know if you will enjoy this, in case you watch it - I did think of you at the end of the film, that you would probably enjoy it!)
