I only noticed ChatGPT recently, potentially because it recently became available in my country, Greece.
The ads that appeared in my searches, are relevant - but to be honest I never searched something to buy or book, so in my case, none of the ads I saw received a click for conversion.
And as per some of the youtube videos that I saw, several of the users who have used those ads, mention not being able to receive conversions (or to optimize campaigns for conversions until recently) - despite the cost per click which is around 1$ and the many many views (that are supposed to be relevant)
One of the other issues is that you still do not know exactly where your ad appeared and who actually clicked.
As I was researching, I found that to be able to run ads, every business will need to create a business listing as an advertiser and verify it. Then, they can run their own ads, or contact someone (i.e. a digital agency) as a user/admin to run the ads for them.
To me, this create an extra complexity, but I also see it as an opportunity.
I think it may be good for some businesses to try this kind of ads.
You never know if something is good and productive, unless you try it.
So in this post I will show you an example of how you can create your own advertiser listing but please note that - as per ChatGPT
OpenAI currently says that Ads Manager supports eligible business advertiser accounts, and explicitly states that individual advertiser onboarding is not supported.
So, for example:
🏨 Hotel/company → Yes
🧑💼 Freelancer operating as a registered business → potentially yes, subject to eligibility/verification
🏢 Agency's client company → Yes
👩 A private individual wanting to promote herself personally → No, not through the current self-service advertiser onboarding
🎨 A photographer with a registered business/eligible entity → potentially yes
🎤 An individual artist without a business entity → not through the current individual advertiser setup
The key isn't necessarily "big company vs small person." It's that the entity being advertised and billed needs to qualify as an advertiser/business and pass OpenAI's verification/review. OpenAI asks for business name, website, industry, country, billing information and verification.
If you have, say, 10 small clients, you shouldn't create one Ads account and put all 10 clients' advertisements inside it as though the Agency were the advertiser.
Instead, the process is:
Client → owns advertiser account → Agency gets access → Agency manages campaigns
To verify your business, you will need to have all legal documents that OpenAI may ask...
To start, you need to visit this address
IMPORTANT: You do not need a paid account to become a verified advertiser

So what do you think?
Is this something that you (if you own a business) would try out?
Let me know if you will need more details, as I will be setting this up soon for my business.
