I created a free tool to find out who does not follow you back on X!
If you are a 'social' media person, you definitely have some mutual connections on different platforms.
But what happens if some of them, follow a strategy called 'follow-unfollow'? Have you ever wondered how many people you follow on X who don't follow you back?
This is something that I have been thinking during the time I am handling social media platforms. If I follow back someone, I expect them to keep following.
Unfollowing the ones who do not follow you and if you do not take any value from following them, is simply fair to me.
So, I created X Follow Back Check, a free browser-based tool that helps you review your X connections.
I wanted to keep it simple, free and, most importantly, private.
To keep all the above, I leave it to the end user to do the most important part.
You will need to request and download your personal data archive from X. This can take some time, and depending on how long you've been using the platform, the archive can be quite large. Mine was almost 1 GB!
If you have any issues, if the archive is big or the zip won't load, you can unzip it and choose just follower.js and following.js from the data folder (select both together). They are tiny.
The link takes you through the process, but I will explain it here as well.
The tool allows you to see who follows you, who you follow, who doesn't follow you back, and even those who follow you but whom you haven't followed back.
It doesn't automatically unfollow anyone. You make those decisions yourself.
This is an early version, built with the valuable assistance of Claude, and I may add more features in the future. For now, I'd love to hear your thoughts, suggestions and feedback.
Step 1.
Visit https://katerinaramm1.github.io/x-unfollow/ to see the instructions
You see where you need to go to get the archive, and get a reminder to get back 24h afterwards (X will need 24h to prepare the file)
- To download your archive you can go to your profile info and request to download your archive, this takes 24h usually to be ready.
The next day, you go back to https://katerinaramm1.github.io/x-unfollow/ and you upload your zip (or if it is too large, you can simply upload the follower.js and following.js from the data folder (select both together).
You immediately see your results, how many you follow / follow you / don't follow you back and just below you can also see your mutuals and the ones following you but you do not follow them back.
Please note:
You will only see ids, but when you click, you will go to the username.
This is the information provided to you for free. For more specific info you will need to use the paid API (perhaps i will update this in the future to be available with a subscription)
You only see the ids, however they are clickable.
Every click is stroked, so that you know your spot and there is a counter because you should take a few seconds between clicks, and also take breaks, as there are not set limits for unfollows and you do not wish X to see this as abnormal activity and get flagged.
There are still a few changes to be made, so that it becomes more user friendly, but I am waiting to see if there is any feedback so that I can implement them all together.
I understand that this tool may seem primitive and very simplistic, but to me, it does exactly what I need at this point.
I hope that it will be useful to you too and I will look forward for your feedback.
Good luck!
