When I'm on the soundboard at my church mixed with my musicianship that I learned through my 26 years, I am very knowledgeable when it comes to mixing instruments. The very big key is frequencies. Not too much and not too less. You want everything to sound right.

What I require is 3 SM7B Shure mics ($400-$500) - guys I ain't cheaping on sound.. As a recording studio, my clients I see who are professionals.
Sound treatment ((need 6 of 12 Pk) 1"x12"x12" Soundproofing Foam Acoustic Tiles Studio Foam Sound Wedges) - Yeah recording in the closet will help a lot in minimizing sound bouncing in the room back into the mic.
Soundboard: If I am doing it the right way, I would love my own version of protools, 2 8 xlr/TSR interface to Macbook Pro.
