Hello, dear friends at Sketchbook. I hope you are all doing well and are full of creative energy.
Today, I want to share a new illustration with you, inspired by one of the most beautiful and nostalgic times of the year: Halloween. To lean into this theme—steeped in magic and mystery—I decided to recreate a character who has fascinated me since childhood. One of my absolute favorite characters from the film The Nightmare Before Christmas is, without a doubt, the sweet and affectionate Sally.
Although she is a rag doll covered in stitches, she has always evoked a sense of deep tenderness, innocence, and simplicity in me. I love how her design reflects fragility, while at the same time revealing great strength and loyalty throughout the story. I recently came across a beautiful reference image of her while scrolling through social media, and I knew instantly that she had to be my next source of inspiration.
To bring this drawing to life, I decided to create it digitally, as I feel this medium is perfect for achieving the soft, translucent, and melancholic tones that characterize Tim Burton’s world. I truly enjoyed the process of blending the colors for her bluish skin and the tattered pieces of her dress, while carefully attending to every detail of her scars so that she wouldn’t lose the sweetness that makes her so special.
I sincerely hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed painting it. Thank you so much for visiting my post and for always supporting my art!
