The Imperial Soldiers, also known as Clone Assault Soldiers, Assault Troops, or Stormtroopers, were a group of elite shock soldiers from the Galactic Empire. Like Imperial I-class Star Destroyers and TIE Fighters, stormtroopers served as a reminder of the Emperor's power, extensions of his will, and a method of keeping the Empire's hundreds of star systems under the yoke of fear.
These soldiers formed the Stormtrooper Corps, which operated as an independent branch of the Imperial Army and Navy, despite the fact that some of those stationed in the Navy were known by the name "Marines".
Members of the Rebel Alliance Special Forces used numerous terms to refer to stormtroopers, including "white hats" [13], "plastic soldiers" [13], and "snowmen" [13]. Another slang term used for these soldiers was "Men in White" [14]. They were even called "bucket heads" by some dissident citizens.
