ENG/ESP Redesigning a crochet flower headband. / Rediseñando una diadema con flores a crochet.

When we have a little girl at home, we always have accessories that may have deteriorated a bit and need a new look. Such happened with this butterfly headband. It was part of a butterfly costume that a friend gave to Rafaella and well, you know, being part of her games and pranks, it didn't last long, besides, it is well known that butterflies have a short life, and this one was no exception.

Cuando tenemos una pequeña niña en casa, siempre tenemos accesorios que quizás se hayan deteriorado un poco y necesitan un nuevo aire. Tal paso con esta diadema de mariposa. Era parte de un disfraz de mariposa que una amiga le regaló a Rafaella y bueno, ya saben, siendo parte de sus juegos y travesuras no fue mucho lo que pudo durar, además, es bien conocido que las mariposas tienen corta vida, y esta no fue la excepción.

When one of the butterflies fell off, Rafaella lost all interest in the headband and it was my opportunity to make it my new project. The headband has some kind of plastic screws at the base where the springs fit perfectly.

Cuando se cayó una de las mariposas, Rafaella perdió todo el interés en la diadema y fue mi oportunidad para hacer de ella mi nuevo proyecto. La diadema tiene en la base una especie de tornillos de plástico donde calzan los resortes perfectamente.

I wanted to crochet some butterflies, but the change would not be very significant, so I opted for a pair of bubblegum pink flowers. But first I covered the base with brown crochet thread. It's a simple weave that starts by tying a knot as we would to start a chain, only we leave it open to introduce one end of the headband through the hole. Then we weave bringing the thread under the headband and forming the chain on top of it.

Quise hacer unas mariposas a crochet, pero el cambio no sería muy significativo, entonces me incliné por una par de florecitas sw color rosa chicle. Pero primero cubrí la base con hilo crochet color café. Es un tejido simple que se inicia realizando un nudo como lo haríamos para iniciar una cadena, solo que lo dejamos abierto para introducir una punta de la diadema por el orificio. Luego tejemos trayendo el hilo por debajo de la diadema y formando la cadena encima de ésta

Once we have lined the headband we continue with the flowers. We make the center with a magic ring of six low stitches, increases to 12 and then to 18 and the next round we make it without increases and we get it to be slightly bulky. We make the back part which is a disk that we make two the same way as the center but up to the third round so that we have up to 18 stitches. We join both pieces in the measure that we have the petals which are puff stitches of 5 loops and a picot stitch on top. We make 10 petals.

Una vez que hemos forrado el cintillo seguimos con las flores. Realizamos el centro con un anillo mágico de seis puntos bajos, aumentos a 12 y luego a 18 y la siguiente vuelta la realizamos sin aumentos y conseguimos que quedara ligeramente abultado. Hacemos la parte de atrás que es un disco que realizamos dos la misma forma que el centro pero hasta la tercera vuelta de manera que tenemos hasta los 18 puntos. Unimos ambas piezas en la medida que tenemos los pétalos que son puntos puff de 5 lazadas y un punto picot encima. Hacemos 10 pétalos.

Before reaching the last petal, we place a little stuffing so that our flowers have more body. I think they look prettier when they are stuffed. We close the fabric with a slip stitch. I forgot this part of stuffing on both flowers and had to unknit to apply the stuffing and it's not nice at all.

Antes de llegar al último pétalo, colocamos un poco de relleno para que nuestras flores tengan más cuerpo. A mí me parece que se ven más lindas cuando están rellenas. Cerramos el tejido con un punto deslizado. Esta parte de rellenar lo olvidé en ambas flores y tuve que destejer para aplicar el relleno y no es nada agradable.

For the leaves, we knit a chain of eight stitches. We leave one stitch unknitted and in the next one we knit a slip stitch, a single crochet, a single crochet, a double crochet, a double crochet, then in reverse until we reach the end of the chain and there we knit three double crochets. On the other side we knit exactly the same but from the bottom up, in the same order. We bend the end of a 5 centimeter wire and introduce it through the center of the leaf. Then we cover a toothpick with a piece of green thread and we introduce it into the spring, then we pass the wire of the leaves through the spring and with the excess of thread we tighten it.

Para las hojas, tejemos una cadena de ocho puntos. Dejamos un punto sin tejer y en el siguiente tejemos un punto deslizado, un punto bajo, un medio alto, un punto alto, luego en reversa hasta llegar al final de la cadena y allí tejemos tres puntos medios altos. Del otro lado tejemos exactamente lo mismo pero de abajo hacia arriba, en ese mismo orden. Doblamos la punta de un alambre de 5 centímetros y lo introducimos por el centro de la hoja. A parte cubrimos un palillo con un trozo de hilo verde y lo introducimos en el resorte, luego pasamos el alambre de las hojas por el resorte y con el sobrante de hilo lo ajustamos Ensamblamos todo
