West Wind Pass
Welcome to beautiful Alberta, Canada.
I hiked up Windtower Mountain, in the Spray Lakes area, about 30 min from Canmore, the road turns to gravel, but is well maintained and dusty in the Summer months.
It's a 10 Km hike with the first 5 Km is up hill to the summit.
The tree line is passed early on affording terrific....
Goat Mountain, and Mount Nestor
views for most of the hike.
The large lake is actually a reservoir, called Spray Lakes Reservoir. The water powers 3 generating stations providing 165 MW or 8,000 homes.
The views are outstanding and the trail, although it is not scary, you had to be aware....

and use common sense. I did turn around and find another route as this one seemed to get narrow and was going right along the side of the mountain, there is a more....
suitable and forgiving path.
There were photo opportunities for most of the hike, with numerous openings, and .....
stunning scenery.
Appropriately named, the further along in the hike, the windier it got, I always carry a windbreaker, mountain weather can change in....
a matter of minutes.
It was about a 4- 5 hour hike and rated as moderate. The views made it.....
well worth the effort.
